Under Construction: A Bold Moody Transitional

Under Construction: A Bold Moody Transitional

Some projects feel big on paper, and others feel big from the very beginning—this one is both.

Right in the heart of Davidson, NC (and just steps from another Holliday Homes project), we’ve broken ground on what will become our largest custom home to date. At over 5,100 square feet, this home is designed to make a statement while still feeling warm, livable, and rooted in its surroundings.

Construction began at the end of 2025, and we’re looking forward to wrapping things up by the end of 2026.

A Bold Look for a Timeless Home

This home definitely stands out—in the best way.

Instead of the light, bright exterior you see on many new homes, the homeowners chose a Moody Transitional design with James Hardie® Artisan® siding painted a rich dark gray, paired with black trim and black Andersen 400 Series windows. The thicker profile and crisp shadow lines of the Artisan siding give the home an elevated, custom look while adding even more character to the exterior.

Brick accents and a standing seam metal porch roof add just the right amount of contrast, making the entire exterior feel warm, balanced, and welcoming.

It's bold, but not flashy. Modern, but not trendy. Exactly the look the homeowners were after.

Trading Locations for More Walkability

Unlike many of our clients who are relocating from another state, these homeowners already live in the Lake Norman area.

Now that both of their kids are away at college, they were ready for something different. Instead of staying in their current neighborhood, they wanted to be somewhere they could walk to dinner, grab a coffee, meet friends downtown, or simply enjoy an evening stroll.

Davidson checked every box.

It's one of those towns that people visit once and immediately understand why so many people choose to call it home.

Designed Around the Property

One of the coolest parts of this project is the lot itself.

Because the house is built into a hillside, the main living spaces are actually on the middle floor. That means the large covered back porch sits up above the backyard, overlooking what will soon become a beautiful outdoor living space complete with plenty of covered porches, and a saltwater pool and spa.

It's going to be an incredible place to entertain, relax with family, or simply enjoy the view.

The walkout lower level opens directly to the pool area and gives the homeowners even more space to spread out. It includes a large recreation room, a dedicated fitness room, and multiple guest bedrooms, making it the perfect setup for visiting family and friends.

The property also includes a detached two-car garage, keeping the focus on the home's architecture while adding even more flexibility.

A Kitchen To Love

If you've followed our homes for a while, you know we love designing kitchens that are as functional as they are beautiful.

This one is no exception.

A large island anchors the space and opens directly into an oversized living room, making it easy for everyone to stay connected whether they're cooking, entertaining, or just hanging out.

The homeowners selected a premium Wolf and Sub-Zero appliance package, along with beautiful Opal White Quartz countertops that brighten the space and create a clean, timeless look.

Tucked just behind the kitchen is a hardworking scullery finished with Neos Black honed leathered granite countertops. It's the kind of feature homeowners quickly realize they can't live without—extra prep space, extra storage, and somewhere to hide the everyday mess when company comes over.

Details That Make the Difference

Some of our favorite features aren't necessarily the first things people notice.

Throughout the home, 7½-inch wide white oak flooring in the color Barley with a super-matte finish brings warmth to every room and creates a beautiful foundation for the entire design.

Another feature we're especially excited about is the staircase.

Running through all three levels of the home, it will feature white oak handrails, white oak newel posts, and white oak balusters. It's one of those architectural elements that quietly ties the whole house together and adds a level of craftsmanship you'll appreciate every time you walk through the front door.

We Can't Wait to Watch This One Come Together

We’re excited to finish this beautiful Moody Transitional home and can’t wait to show you every detail—from the dramatic exterior to the backyard pool oasis.

Be sure to check back at the end of 2026 when this custom home is complete!
